Yitzhak Rabin

Yitzhak Rabin, the Israeli Prime Minister and former general who was a war hero to his countrymen and who won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to reconcile with the Palestinians, was assassinated on Saturday night at a peace rally in Tel Aviv. He was 73. The assassin was a Jewish law student who opposed Mr. Rabin's peace policies.
