Lenin, the leader of the Russian Revolution and the first head of the Soviet state, died at 6:50 o'clock on Monday evening, January 21, 1924, of a cerebral hemorrhage. His death came as a great shock to the whole of Russia, which had been kept in ignorance of the gravity of his last illness.
