Timothy Leary, the apostle of drug-induced mysticism who died on Friday at 75, was both a product and a shaper of his times. Mr. Leary, a former Harvard professor, preached the gospel of psychedelic drugs in the 1960s, promoting their use as a way of achieving insight and spiritual satisfaction. His advocacy of LSD, psilocybin and other hallucinogens won him a global following of believers and detractors.
