Thurman Munson, the 32-year-old captain of the New York Yankees, was killed yesterday afternoon when the jet he was piloting crashed and burned short of the runway at the Akron-Canton Airport. Mr. Munson, a professional baseball player for 11 years and one of the most admired Yankees of his generation, was practicing takeoffs and landings in his new jet when the accident occurred.
