Stephen Hawking, the renowned British physicist and best-selling author who brought science to a mass audience with the good-natured humor and an unforgettable synthetic voice that he used to overcome his severe physical disability, has died at his home in Cambridge, England. He was 76. Dr. Hawking did that in 1988 with his best-selling book “A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes,” which has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.
