Stan Laurel, the lean, shy partner of the comedy team of Laurel and Hardy, died yesterday in Santa Monica, Calif. He was 74 years old. With his partner, Oliver Hardy, who died in 1957, Mr. Laurel made more than 200 short and full-length films, most of them silent.
