Death & Legacy

Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu was hanged at the Pretoria Central Prison on 6 April 1979. He was buried in the Mamelodi Cemetery, where a plaque states his last words: "My blood will nourish the tree that will bear the fruits of freedom. Tell my people that I love them. They must continue the fight." His death served to inspire a new generation of young activists to join the ANC’s military wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe.
