Death & Legacy
Satoru Iwata, who led the Japanese company Nintendo as president during a period of explosive growth in the global gaming industry, died on Saturday in Kyoto, Japan. He was 55. The cause was a bile duct growth, the company said. Mr. Iwata was the first president of Nintendo who was not a member of the Yamauchi family, which founded the company in 1889 as a playing card company. He took over in 2002 from Hiroshi Yamauchi, who had led the company for more than half a century.
