Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali, the Surrealist painter, who was one of the most famous, controversial and colorful artists of the 20th century, died yesterday at Figueras in his native Catalonia, in northeastern Spain. He was 84 years old. Mr. Dali was known for his flamboyant personality as much as for his undeniable technical virtuosity as a painter. In his art and his life, he created an indelible image of bizarre and disturbing things presented with the precise illusionism of the old masters.
