Ronnie Van Zant, the lead singer of the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, and five other people were killed Thursday when their chartered plane crashed near Gillsburg, Miss. The band was en route to a performance in Baton Rouge, La., when the crash occurred. Mr. Van Zant, 29 years old, was a founder of the band, which was one of the top‐grossing concert groups in the country.
