Charles Arthur "Pretty Boy" Floyd, a notorious gangster and bank robber of the Great Depression era, was killed by police officers in an Ohio field on October 22, 1934. His death marked the end of a year-long manhunt led by the F.B.I. Floyd was infamous for his criminal activities, but also had a reputation as a 'Robin Hood' figure who supposedly destroyed mortgage papers at the banks he robbed, freeing many from their debts.
