Myra Hindley

John McVicar, the former armed robber turned author and journalist, who has died aged 64, was one of Britain's most wanted men in the 1960s. He was the only man to have escaped from Durham top security prison, and was on the run for two years before being recaptured. After his release from prison in 1978, he reinvented himself as a writer and broadcaster, and his autobiography was made into a film, McVicar, in which he was played by Roger Daltrey.
