Medgar Evers

Medgar Evers, the 37-year-old field secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Mississippi, was shot and killed early yesterday in front of his home in Jackson. Mr. Evers, one of the South's prominent civil rights leaders, was returning from a meeting at a small Negro church when he was cut down by a sniper's bullet.
