Winston Churchill, the British leader who guided Great Britain and the Allies through the crisis of World War II, died at 90 in his London home at 8 a.m. on Jan. 24, 1965. His death marked the end of an era in Britain. He was not only his country's premier but its symbol and its inspiration in a time of desperate danger and after.
