Death & Legacy
The South African anti-apartheid activist and Nobel laureate, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who has died aged 76, was one of the world's most revered religious leaders, a moral titan whose robust advocacy of social justice made him a pivotal figure in the successful fight against racial segregation in his country. He was a man of extraordinary charisma, whose infectious laughter, radiant smile and deep, hearty voice made him instantly recognisable. He was also a man of immense courage, who, despite numerous death threats and a bombing attack on his home, never wavered in his opposition to apartheid.
