Louis Armstrong

Louis Armstrong, the celebrated jazz trumpeter and singer, died in his sleep yesterday morning at his home in the Corona section of Queens. He had been at death's door last September after a heart attack, but he recovered sufficiently to appear occasionally in public, even though he had to be helped on and off the stage. His health had been failing steadily in recent years and he had been hospitalized several times. His age was given as 69.
