John Wayne

John Wayne, the actor who came to symbolize America's frontier heritage in nearly 200 films, most of them Westerns, died yesterday at the age of 72. The cause of death was cancer, which Mr. Wayne had been battling on and off for 15 years. He died at 5:35 P.M., Pacific daylight time, at the U.C.L.A. Medical Center, where he had been undergoing treatment for stomach cancer.
