Jimmy Savile

Jimmy Savile, who has died aged 84, was the first DJ, in the modern pop-culture sense, on British radio. He was also a pioneering club DJ in the 1940s, a TV wrestling commentator in the 1960s, a regular on the airwaves for more than 40 years, and a tireless charity worker. His eccentricity, flamboyant dress sense and love of the limelight made him one of the most recognisable and controversial figures in British broadcasting.
