Jeanne Calment, who had the longest confirmed human lifespan on record, died on August 4, 1997, at a nursing home in Arles in southern France. She was 122 years and 164 days old. The woman who outlived everyone else in the world was born on Feb. 21, 1875, during the administration of Ulysses S. Grant, and lived long enough to see the turn of two centuries and the election of 20 American presidents.
