Tony Shryane, who has died aged 89, was the producer of The Archers for 21 years, from 1951 to 1972, and, with the scriptwriter Edward J Mason, one of the creators of the everyday story of country folk. He was also responsible for many other radio programmes, including the panel game My Word! and its spin-off, My Music.
