Death & Legacy
George Best, one of the most charismatic and gifted footballers of the 20th century, died yesterday aged 59. His death was announced by Professor Roger Williams, who had been overseeing his treatment at the private Cromwell hospital in west London since he was admitted with a kidney infection on October 1. Best, who had a controversial liver transplant in 2002, had been in intensive care for over a month. His condition deteriorated rapidly over the past week after he developed a lung infection and then internal bleeding.
