Death & Legacy
Frederick Valentich, a 20-year-old pilot, disappeared while on a 125-nautical mile (235 km) training flight in a Cessna 182L light aircraft over Bass Strait in Australia on 21 October 1978. His intended path was from Moorabbin Airport, located in the Melbourne suburb of Moorabbin, Victoria to King Island, Tasmania. Valentich's last radio transmission was a report of an unidentified aircraft flying near him.
