Death & Legacy
In the 85th year of his age, the illustrious DR. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, after a lingering illness, which he bore with a fortitude truly philosophical, resigned his breath, and is now entombed in the grave. The loss of such a man is a public calamity; his example has ceased to instruct us; his wisdom, no longer guides our councils; the piety of his life, which every Christian may follow, is finished; and nothing now remains but the memory of his virtues, and the grand effects of his discoveries in philosophy, and his exertions for the benefit of mankind.
