Dr. Arthur M. Sackler, a psychiatrist, entrepreneur and philanthropist whose eclectic interests and vast wealth changed the face of cultural philanthropy and medical research, died of a heart ailment on Monday at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He was 73 years old. Dr. Sackler and his two brothers, Mortimer and Raymond, amassed one of the largest fortunes in America. They did so largely through the development and marketing of a spectrum of drugs, including the tranquilizer Valium.
