Amelia Earhart, the woman flyer who sought to circle the world along the Equator, was lost at sea yesterday and given up as dead by her husband, George Palmer Putnam. Miss Earhart and her navigator, Captain Frederick J. Noonan, disappeared in mid-Pacific on the most hazardous leg of their globe-circling trip.
