Amadou Diallo

Four New York City police officers fired 41 shots at an unarmed man in the doorway of his Bronx apartment building early yesterday, killing him in a barrage of bullets that Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani said appeared to be "excessive and unacceptable." The man, Amadou Diallo, 22, an immigrant from Guinea who sold gloves and hats on 14th Street in Manhattan, was hit 19 times.
